If the EU were to force Serbia to choose between the membership in the Union and sovereignty in Kosmet, it would have grave consequences for the stability in the region, stated Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, for the Austrian PROFIL magazine. He said it was hard to imagine, because several EU members have not recognized the unilateral independence of Kosmet. Jeremic has pointed his statement is not a threat, while assessing that the relations among former Yugoslav countries have not been better that now since the fall apart of the joint country. I am not saying there can be no new disputes, but if we had to choose between the EU and Kosmet, it would paralyze the peace process and the situation in the Balkans could be destabilized, specified the Serbian Minister. After the comment that the moment is not right for the membership in the Union and that there could be a longer hiatus after the admission of Croatia, Jeremic responded that there was optimism in that regard in Serbia.
